Mufulira Municipal Council convened a stakeholders engagement meeting to review the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) budget projections for 2026, 2027, and 2028. The meeting brought together various stakeholders to discuss developmental priorities and improvements within the town.
Among the key suggestions was the proposal to transform the existing social club into a more beneficial facility, such as flats or a lodge, to generate sustainable revenue and enhance community amenities.
Additionally, the importance of learning from other councils was highlighted, with a recommendation for officials to visit and study revenue collection strategies elsewhere to improve local financial management.
Concerns were raised about the underutilized Buteko Market near the dry market, where no traders are currently present. Attendees urged the council to revisit the area and encourage shop allocations to be utilized effectively, ensuring the market becomes active and beneficial for traders and residents alike.
